Pagis gets maiden France call-up as Konate and Tchouameni return

  • Zinedine Zidane has named his 23-man squad for France's last two Nations League fixtures, with Pablo Pagis a surprise inclusion.

Paris FC's Pablo Pagis has earned his first call-up to the France national team, after he was selected by Zinedine Zidane for their upcoming Nations League fixtures on Friday.

France face Italy and Turkiye in their final two Group A1 fixtures this month, with Pagis given the chance to impress after shining for Paris under Liam Rosenior's guidance.

Pagis has registered one goal and two assists for Paris in Ligue 1 this season, while his 12 chances created are the third-most within the team's ranks so far in 2026-27.

He netted his 12th Ligue 1 goal during Paris' 3-1 win over Monaco last Sunday, and the 23-year-old will now get a chance to be part of France's star-studded frontline.

Real Madrid's Kylian Mbappe, Liverpool's Bradley Barcola, Paris Saint-Germain's Desire Doue and Bayern Munich's Michael Olise have also all been selected by Zidane.

Marcus Thuram is one of four returning players who had not featured since the World Cup. Malo Gusto, Ibrahima Konate and Aurelien Tchouameni have also been recalled into the team.

Zidane will, however, be without several players, with the likes of Jules Kounde, Ousmane Dembele, William Saliba, Maxence Lacroix and Esteban Lepaul all out with injuries.

Maghnes Akliouche is another absentee after he sustained an injury in Paris Saint-Germain's 6-0 win over Villarreal, paving the way for Pagis to replace him.

France have taken 10 points from their opening four Nations League fixtures and know one more point will ensure they reach the quarter-finals of the competition.

Les Bleus make the trip to San Siro to face Roberto Mancini's Italy on November 12, before returning to the Stade Atlantique Bordeaux Metropole to face Turkiye three days later.
