"We Can Make History": Hansi Flick Backs Barcelona Despite Defeats to PSG and Real Madrid

Defeats against PSG and Real Madrid have not changed the German manager's plans. Flick explains why he still believes in his project and has his sights set on major trophies.

The German manager remains confident in Barcelona's ambitions, insisting the team has what it takes to win LaLiga and the Champions League

German manager Hansi Flick remains confident in Barcelona despite their recent defeats against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Real Madrid. The head coach insists the club's ambitions remain unchanged and believes his squad has what it takes to win LaLiga and the UEFA Champions League.

Speaking ahead of Barcelona's clash against Aston Villa, on Matchday 4 of the Champions League league phase, Flick defended his players' performances and urged the team to focus on the challenges ahead.

FLICK REFUSES TO CHANGE HIS TARGETS AFTER RECENT DEFEATS

“I think we played at the same level as PSG and Real Madrid, and the results could have been different. But I don't like looking too much at the past. I prefer to focus on the upcoming matches. We can make history, and that's what we're working towards: winning LaLiga and the Champions League,” Flick said.

The German coach also acknowledged that defeats tend to attract attention, while pointing to the team's previous performances.

“It's normal to focus on defeats or weaknesses. If I were in the press, I would do the same. But these defeats don't change anything,” he added.

Flick emphasized that Barcelona had won 11 consecutive matches before suffering those two setbacks, reaffirming his faith in the project and the playing philosophy he has implemented since taking charge.

He also stressed that the team still has plenty of room to demonstrate its true potential, with their immediate European objective being to finish among the top eight teams in the Champions League league phase.

FLICK PRAISES UNAI EMERY AND WARNS OF ASTON VILLA'S QUALITY

Speaking about Barcelona's next opponents, Flick praised Aston Villa manager Unai Emery, describing him as “one of the best coaches in Europe.”

“I really like the way his team plays. They are confident on the ball and in their buildup. I like their defensive structure. They have everything very clear,” the Barcelona boss explained.

He also expects a difficult encounter:

“It's the Champions League, and it's special. Every opponent has quality, and it will be a tough match.”

Flick also highlighted Jackson's outstanding form and made it clear that Barcelona will need to deliver their best performance to get back to winning ways.
