Harry Kane Reveals What Convinced Him to Leave Tottenham for Bayern Munich
Harry Kane looked back on his 2023 departure from Tottenham and explained why he decided to swap England for Germany. A decision that transformed his career and one he would make all over again.
Leaving Tottenham Hotspur in 2023 was not an easy decision for Harry Kane. After becoming the club's all-time leading scorer and spending virtually his entire career in England, the striker decided to test himself in a different league. Three years later, he is convinced the move was worth it.
His contract extension with Bayern Munich until 2029 also shed light on what convinced him to make that decision and why he sees his future in Germany.
Stepping Out of His Comfort Zone Was Key to Choosing Bayern
During the press conference organized by Bayern Munich following the announcement of his contract extension until 2029, Harry Kane explained that leaving the Premier League was the right decision to step out of his comfort zone. The opportunity to experience a different football culture, compete for major trophies, and take on new challenges played a decisive role in accepting the German club's offer.
"It's nice to have a change of scenery. Sometimes a change is also good mentally," the striker said. He also recalled that he had always believed in himself and was confident he could score goals wherever he played. His goal was to compete for the Bundesliga, the German Cup, and the Champions League every season.
Vincent Kompany Also Played a Key Role in His Decision to Stay
His relationship with Vincent Kompany is another reason why Kane is convinced about continuing in Munich. The England international praised the manager's mentality and the way he pushes every member of the squad, regardless of their experience.
He even revealed that the coach never pressured him to sign a new deal, allowing him to make his own decision. Kane believes they share the same work ethic and competitive ambition, making them a good fit for Bayern's project.

Kane Has No Regrets About Leaving Tottenham
The results speak for themselves. The striker has scored 156 goals in 161 appearances for Bayern, while also winning two Bundesliga titles and one German Cup. In 2026, he also claimed the Ballon d'Or, capping off his transformation in Germany.
Although he considered returning to the Premier League during his first years in Munich, Kane admitted that the desire has faded. His family has settled into the city, he enjoys the club, and he feels comfortable with the team around him. Now, his main objective is to win the Champions League with Bayern and continue building a chapter he could hardly have imagined when he left London.
