European Champions Visit La Cerámica Amid a Dominant Winning Streak
The Champions League brings together two teams in very different situations. Villarreal welcome Paris Saint-Germain to the Estadio de la Cerámica this Tuesday, looking to regain confidence against one of the toughest opponents in European football.
The Spanish side have endured a difficult few weeks, while the Parisians arrive full of confidence and with plenty of reasons to believe they can take all three points.
La Cerámica Braces for a Major Challenge
Villarreal have an important opportunity to turn their season around. Following a defeat to Espanyol in LaLiga, the team desperately need a positive result in front of their home fans. However, their next opponents will make that task anything but easy.
PSG, meanwhile, are determined to maintain their impressive run. Luis Enrique's side want to keep collecting victories and prove that their status as reigning champions is no coincidence. For the Yellow Submarine, the challenge will be to prevent the visitors from finding space and taking control of the game from the outset.
PSG Arrive in Top Form With a Relentless Attack
PSG have recorded nine consecutive victories across all competitions and have started their European title defense with wins over Slovan Bratislava, Manchester City, and Barcelona. They scored 14 goals across those three matches, matching a historic record set by Arsenal in the 2010-11 Champions League.
Their latest statement came in a commanding 5-1 victory over Le Havre, with Achraf Hakimi stealing the spotlight by scoring a hat-trick and providing two assists. Meanwhile, Luis Enrique became the winningest manager in the club's history, reaching 127 victories in charge. Now, he will look to extend PSG's winning streak to ten matches.
Villarreal's Defensive Problems Leave Plenty of Questions
The Yellow Submarine's biggest concern remains their defensive record. They are coming off a 4-3 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield and have conceded in 14 consecutive Champions League matches.
Still, Villarreal have reasons to believe they can compete. Their only European victory this season came against Napoli, whom they defeated 3-1 at home. Additionally, both teams have scored in 12 of their last 14 home matches, suggesting another high-scoring encounter could be on the cards.
