Erling Haaland's Father Breaks Silence on Potential Manchester City Exit

  • Alf-Inge Haaland has addressed his son's future after Manchester City were found responsible for 114 financial rule breaches. While insisting the striker remains focused on soccer, he refused to reveal whether his contract includes a potential exit clause.

Haaland Stays Focused Amid City's Uncertainty

The future of Erling Haaland is back in the spotlight after an independent commission found Manchester City responsible for 114 of the 115 financial rule breaches investigated by the Premier League. With the club appealing the ruling, the Norwegian striker's father, Alf-Inge Haaland, insists his son is not letting the controversy distract him.

"Erling thinks about playing as much football as he can and concentrates on that," Alf-Inge told Viaplay. "I think it's more those of us outside the pitch who think a bit more about it."

His comments come amid growing speculation that Haaland could consider leaving City if the club faces severe sporting sanctions. No final punishment has been imposed, but the possible consequences include fines, points deductions and even expulsion from the Premier League.

His Father Refuses to Discuss an Exit Clause

One of the biggest questions surrounding Haaland's future is whether his contract contains a clause allowing him to leave Manchester City in the event of relegation. The possibility has attracted attention as uncertainty continues over the club's position.

Alf-Inge, who remains closely involved in his son's career alongside agent Rafaela Pimenta, was asked directly whether such a clause exists. He offered no clarification.

"I can't comment on player contracts or Erling's contract," he said. "I can't comment on that."

The uncertainty has also fueled speculation linking Haaland with Real Madrid and Barcelona, two clubs long associated with a potential move for the Norwegian. Arsenal have also been mentioned as possible contenders, although no negotiations have been confirmed.

Manchester City Await Their Appeal

The case entered a new stage when Manchester City formally appealed the commission's findings on October 1, 2026. The club disputes the ruling and maintains that it has evidence to challenge the allegations.

Haaland's father urged patience and rejected comparisons with Juventus, who were relegated to Serie B in 2006 following the Calciopoli match-fixing scandal.

"Well, Juventus was match-fixing and a few other things," Alf-Inge said, arguing that the situations should not be treated as equivalent.

He also believes City deserve the opportunity to present their case before any conclusions are drawn about their sporting future.

"City believe they have strong evidence to stand up and prove their innocence, so I think we wait until that decision is reached," he added.

What Does This Mean for Haaland's Future?

Alf-Inge admitted that he has received little information beyond what has already appeared in the media. He also suggested that Manchester City's ability to defend themselves publicly is limited while the appeal remains ongoing.

"So we hope they get a fair hearing, and then we'll see if they manage to prove that they are innocent, eventually," he said.

For now, Haaland remains a Manchester City player, and there is no confirmed plan for him to leave. Whether the club faces sporting sanctions will depend on the outcome of its legal proceedings and any subsequent disciplinary decisions.

The Norwegian continues to focus on his performances rather than the uncertainty surrounding the club. His father has not suggested that Haaland wants to leave, but he has also declined to rule out a contractual escape route should City's circumstances change.
