The 2026 CAF Super Cup will bring together Mamelodi Sundowns, winners of the CAF Champions League, and USM Alger, champions of the CAF Confederation Cup, on Sunday, November 8.

The match will take place at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria, South Africa, with kickoff scheduled for 7:55 AM ET, LIVE on beIN SPORTS.

Both clubs are chasing their second CAF Super Cup title.

Sundowns won the competition in 2017, while USM Alger claimed the trophy in 2023 after stunning Egyptian giants Al Ahly.

Mamelodi Sundowns' Road to the CAF Champions League Title

Mamelodi Sundowns qualified for the Super Cup by winning the 2025–26 CAF Champions League.

Their campaign began with an emphatic 7-1 aggregate victory over Nigeria's Remo Stars in the second preliminary round.

They then advanced from a difficult group featuring Al Hilal, MC Alger and Saint-Eloi Lupopo.

A decisive brace from Brayan León against MC Alger on the final matchday secured their qualification.

In the quarterfinals, Sundowns eliminated Stade Malien 3-2 on aggregate, despite a difficult second leg in Bamako, where they trailed 2-0 at halftime.

Their semifinal performances were more controlled, with two 1-0 victories over Espérance de Tunis.

The final brought a meeting with Moroccan side AS FAR.

Aubrey Modiba scored the winner in a 1-0 first-leg victory in Pretoria, while Teboho Mokoena found the net in the 1-1 draw in Morocco.

Those results secured Sundowns' second CAF Champions League title and a return to the CAF Super Cup.

USM Alger's Dramatic Journey to Pretoria

USM Alger qualified after winning the 2025–26 CAF Confederation Cup, surviving several tightly contested knockout ties.

The Algerian side began by defeating AF Amadou Diallo 3-1 on aggregate before finishing top of Group A ahead of Olympic Safi, Djoliba and FC San Pedro.

In the quarterfinals, they progressed past AS Maniema Union on away goals following a 2-2 aggregate draw.

The same rule helped them eliminate Olympic Safi in the semifinals after a 1-1 aggregate result.

Their final against Zamalek was even more dramatic.

USMA won the first leg 1-0 in Algiers thanks to a late goal, but Zamalek leveled the aggregate score in Cairo.

With neither team able to find a decisive goal, the title was settled by penalties.

USM Alger prevailed 8-7 in the shootout, securing their second CAF Confederation Cup crown and a place in Sunday's Super Cup.

Two Clubs With Perfect CAF Super Cup Records

Both clubs have played in the CAF Super Cup only once before, and both emerged as champions.

Mamelodi Sundowns made their debut in 2017, defeating TP Mazembe 1-0.

USM Alger followed in 2023, producing one of the competition's biggest upsets with a 1-0 victory over Al Ahly in Taif, Saudi Arabia.

Their meeting in Pretoria guarantees that one of them will become a two-time winner.

Miguel Cardoso and Lamine N'Diaye Bring Continental Experience

Portuguese coach Miguel Cardoso has managed Mamelodi Sundowns since December 2024.

His previous clubs include Rio Ave, Nantes, Celta Vigo and AEK Athens. He also led Espérance de Tunis to the 2024 CAF Champions League final.

At Sundowns, Cardoso has won the South African Premiership, CAF Champions League, MTN8 and FIFA African-Asian-Pacific Cup.

His team continues to favor possession-based football while showing greater defensive organization during transitions.

USM Alger are led by Lamine N'Diaye, who took charge in February 2026.

The Senegalese manager previously won the CAF Champions League with TP Mazembe in 2010 and guided the Congolese club to that year's FIFA Club World Cup final.

He also claimed two CAF Super Cup titles with Mazembe in 2010 and 2011.

N'Diaye quickly made an impact at USMA, winning the Algerian Cup and CAF Confederation Cup in the same season.

His success earned him a two-year contract extension in June.

Although he has described Sundowns as "the best club in Africa," N'Diaye believes his team can produce another tactical surprise.

Teboho Mokoena and Oussama Benbot: Players to Watch

Teboho Mokoena has been a key figure for Mamelodi Sundowns since joining the club in 2022.

The South African midfielder combines tireless running, tactical awareness and powerful long-range shooting.

He played an important role in the latest Champions League triumph, scoring against AS FAR in the second leg of the final.

His performances have earned him nominations for the 2026 CAF Player of the Year and Interclub Player of the Year awards.

For USM Alger, goalkeeper Oussama Benbot brings valuable experience.

Since joining from JS Kabylie in 2021, he has helped the club win two CAF Confederation Cup titles, the 2023 CAF Super Cup and consecutive Algerian Cups in 2025 and 2026.

Benbot also represented Algeria at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, making his first competitive international start against Austria.

He has been nominated for Best Goalkeeper in Africa at the 2026 CAF Awards.

How Are Both Teams Performing This Season?

Mamelodi Sundowns lead the South African Premiership with 26 points from ten matches, one ahead of Orlando Pirates, who have a game in hand.

They also recently lifted the MTN8 trophy.

However, Sundowns suffered an early exit from the current CAF Champions League after losing to Angola's Wiliete SC on away goals in the second preliminary round.

The Super Cup offers an immediate opportunity to respond to that disappointment.

USM Alger sit fourth in the Algerian Ligue 1 with 14 points after seven matches, three behind leaders CR Belouizdad.

Their latest match ended in a 2-0 victory over CS Constantine, with Mohamed El Amine Ramdaoui scoring twice.

USMA will also defend their CAF Confederation Cup title from the group stage after receiving a first-round bye and advancing through the second preliminary round following the withdrawal of Equatorial Guinea's The Panthers.
