De Minaur upsets Zverev to make history in Vienna
Alex De Minaur earned one of the biggest wins of his career, defeating world No.1 elect Zverev 6-4 1-6 7-6 (7-4) to become the first Australian to reach the Vienna Open final.
The Australian improved to 10-0 indoors this season, kept alive his hopes of qualifying for next month's ATP Finals and advanced to the 23rd ATP Tour final of his career.
De Minaur halted Zverev's winning run and denied the German a place in the final days after it was confirmed he would move top of the world rankings on Monday.
"Super proud, super proud with how I handled the situation," De Minaur said after his win.
"I was very calm, even though I threw in a couple doubles there. I thought, all in all, I played a very aggressive tie-break. I played on my terms. I was going to go out swinging and playing the right type of tennis, and that鈥檚 what made the difference today.
"I'm just happy with what I'm doing, the way I'm competing and going about my business.
"I'm just [putting] one foot in front of the other. Ultimately, I'm playing some good tennis, so I'm looking forward to hopefully finishing [the season] strong."
De Minaur will meet Carlos Alcaraz in Monday's (AEDT) final after the Spaniard easily with Daniil Medvedev in straight sets in their semi-final.
